Mantids

This amazing looking insect blends in to the background perfectly when on plants.  The jagged outline breaks up its shape, and even close up it looks like a dead leaf.
Most Mantids will eat almost anything that moves, and it is very, very fast. When another insect comes within striking distance, the mantid flicks out the long front legs, and grabs it in a fraction of a second.
Insects such as mantids are known as ambush predators, because they do not chase their prey but ambush it. They are remarkably patient, and will sit in the same position for weeks, just waiting for something to land near them.
