Amazing artist of the day

The Young Family

So today was my first day back in the studio. thank god. it feels like i am finally back home. i miss my clay

So here is an amazing artist that pushes the envelope and goes outside what the world shows us. Her work is amazing and modern and classy and beautiful and beyond all: perfectly executed. Kuddos, this is to the level of craft i work towards.

Shown to me by a friend in http://www.oddee.com/item_97157.aspx as part of the 10 most controversial sculpture "Piccinini explores what she calls the 'often specious distinctions between the artificial and the natural'. By displaying the similarities and differences between the organic, natural and our constructed material world, Piccinini challenges our classification of life. This inspires her to combine human and animal physiology and technological development in many of her works."(from their site)

The Long Awaited

Wikipedia describes Patricia Piccinini as “an Australian artist ….who works with a wide range of media, including sculpture, video, drawing, installation and digital prints. Her major artworks often reflect her interests in issues such as bioethics, biotechnologies and the environment. ”

Undivided, 2004

A non professional look at her work reveals a stunning juxtaposition of science fiction and parenting. As she mixes alien creatures nurturing their offspring together with human children the results are simultaneously stunning and heartwarming. Judge for yourselves.

Art of beauty

The female body is a beautiful thing by itself, yet when an artist is the one looking at this beautiful canvas, we realize that it can be so much more.

How is beauty that is already perfected turned to be better? An artist will show a version, not a way of making it better, but a version of this beautiful shape.

This is a model Anya Braga a beautiful canvas as she is. turned into a beautiful work of art.

Art of the day

I was looking for a book cover, since i am selling a bunch of books i never look at. I found this one. Nice job for this designer

VIDEO DE CALLE 13 - CALMA PUEBLO

Alright this is the art and artist of the day. Just showing the world how it is. without any makeup or any cover ups. It is love for ones world and love for ones country that drives the truism of the true citizen.

Watch it. you may disagree, but it will awaken your views on the world . (IN SPANISH)

My awsome art of the day

This is not new, but my obsession with macro shot has led me here. I will try to do this when I get home.

Bodies is in Cali, Colombia

Feeling lucky that this amazing show is in Colombia. Always wanted to go but never got around to it. Then there was a commercial about "Bodies: the exhibition" , I turned to my cousin and said "wanna go tomorrow?" she said yeah and well, we went.

I was a great exhibition, the process was explained and the finished product was a great display of the inner workings of the human body. There were a lot of questions such as why different colors or what certain things like the multiple layers of the brain or the muscle. The young people were extremely knowledgeable and were fast to answer.

One thing I did not get to ask, Why were there no female "whole" body models in the show. not even in the fetus chamber or in the reproductive display. Our party's guess is that at the time that the donations of the bodies were done, there were no females to donate.

After posting this online. There was a related comment. The "Body Farm"  wiki told me what it was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_farm   interesting. At least it serves humanity

Suicide

This is a good website to read if you are feeling like it just is not worth it anymore: http://www.metanoia.org/suicide/ It is not therapy or bs of someone trying to "talk you out of it" it is just someone who cared enough to try to make those who are hurt know they matter. Even if just a little bit.

This is what they introduce themselves with:

If you are feeling suicidal now, please stop long enough to read this. It will only take about five minutes. I do not want to talk you out of your bad feelings. I am not a therapist or other mental health professional - only someone who knows what it is like to be in pain.
I don't know who you are, or why you are reading this page. I only know that for the moment, you're reading it, and that is good. I can assume that you are here because you are troubled and considering ending your life. If it were possible, I would prefer to be there with you at this moment, to sit with you and talk, face to face and heart to heart. But since that is not possible, we will have to make do with this.
I have known a lot of people who have wanted to kill themselves, so I have some small idea of what you might be feeling. I know that you might not be up to reading a long book, so I am going to keep this short. While we are together here for the next five minutes, I have five simple, practical things I would like to share with you. I won't argue with you about whether you should kill yourself. But I assume that if you are thinking about it, you feel pretty bad.
Well, you're still reading, and that's very good. I'd like to ask you to stay with me for the rest of this page. I hope it means that you're at least a tiny bit unsure, somewhere deep inside, about whether or not you really will end your life. Often people feel that, even in the deepest darkness of despair. Being unsure about dying is okay and normal. The fact that you are still alive at this minute means you are still a little bit unsure. It means that even while you want to die, at the same time some part of you still wants to live. So let's hang on to that, and keep going for a few more minutes.

Not bad for making you stop and read.

2010 Colombian Elections

Turns out I am in Colombia once again for the world cup in soccer, but Colombia did not even classify, so the entire country is just enjoying the tournament. Cool beans. The games have not been what was expected, you would think that after 4 years of practice you would see amazing soccer, but no. There is one amazing play in 50 it is kinda disappointing. My grandmother watches each and every game so I follow along and see what is going on with the best of the best in the worlds most popular sport. Colombia was represented by two singers: Shakira and Juanes. Both are amazing artists and anyone, even those that can not understand spanish should take a look. I am not saying anyone will like them, since everyone has their own likes, they are just good artists.

Anyways, the reason for the post today is the Colombian elections. Well the second run. The contestants are Juan Manuel Santos and Antanas Mockus. Mockus is a favorite among the young generation of this beautiful country, however even though it seems that there is barely anything bad to say about this man. Being that he was governor of the capital and turned out to be the best governor this country has had. Has great plans for employment and for control of the violations and gerrilla (the anti gov. rebel group that runs the great jungles of this country). Despite these great merits, his contestant Mr. Santos has won by a landslide of 66% to a 25%. Reason for this is the obvious when there is no "he is a good contestant" response. This contestant is backed up by some of the most powerfull companies in Colombia like the sugar company and by a big part of the senate since he belonged to it OH YEAH and not to mention the PRESIDENT and his entire cabinet. there might as well not be any elections. Maybe one day there will be a very good president.

The previous president began his turn extremely well, but after serving his 2nd turn the corruption is too great even for  a man that started out being totally legit.

Hoping for the best. Colombian Youth

This is Fannie. A very lovely mutt. She is part of a very lucky group of dogs that got rescued by Death Row Dogs Rescue in Davie. She is the sweetest and calmest dog on the planet, yet she was part of the death row in a shelter. Fannie had a litter of puppies of which two are left for adoption. Lucy and Ricky who are also very sweet and calm like their mom. Please pass along the message, maybe someone somewhere needs to hear about a lovely lady who just needs a quiet family to love her.

Animal Planet Investigates Petland

So animal planet  is airing an investigation on puppy mills, this leads them to bring Petland (the well known pet store known for selling puppies alleged to be from puppy mills) The trailers has been airing all day, yet I don't seem able to find the video. The trailer kinda aludes to the whole thing blaming Petland for knowing about it, but considering that it airs soon and Petlands around are not caring, my guess is that it will end up being very much a "they didn't know" ending. when I find the trailer i will post it here.

Mckinsey Smith

We had a visiting ceramic artist at the FAU campus in April 2010.

An amazing artist that with a great way of going about life and a passion for sharing his love of clay capture the attention of all whom encountered him.  Beautiful work and great techniques.

My inspiration of the day. Thanks Fubiz

Easter Rabbits, originally uploaded by Betty´s Sugar Dreams.

This is just an inspiration for ceramics. I love the comical ways of depicting a rabbit. Trying it out on ceramic teacups as soon as they dry.

David Meaders

David Meaders was on Dirty Jobs. His pots have a very simple, yet unique quality to them. He does not consider himself an artist, just a potter. The striking thing, was how he threw standing up. yes, STANDING UP. weird. Enjoyable, its nice to see that what we do everyday of our lives is not as easy as people take it to be. Thanks Mike Rowe for messing up like a champ.

Darwin Wiggett article on filters for landscape photography

Top landscape photographer, and fellow Canadian Darwin Wiggett, has just contributed a great article about filters for landscape/outdoor photography to the Singh-Ray blog.  Darwin's use of polarizers and ND grads is the same technique I use for virtually every landscape photo I shoot. This article is a must-read if you're an outdoor photographer...  check it out here:

Jun Kaneko

Ceramic Sculptures of Jun Kaneko

December 22, 2009 - March 7, 2010

Jun Kaneko was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1942. He came to the United States in 1963 to continue his painting studies at Chouinard Institute of Art where his focus was drawn to sculptural ceramics through his introduction to Fred Marer and his extensive collection of artworks by contemporary California artists. At this time he also studied with many of the artists who formed The Contemporary Ceramics Movement such as Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner, John Mason and Jerry Rothman. The following decade, Kaneko taught at some of the nation's leading art schools, including Scripps College, Cranbrook Academy of Art and Rhode Island School of Design.

Mr. Kaneko is a prolific artist, who learns by process and through the dialog between maker and object, a distance he is constantly challenging, achieving an intimacy with his medium where his bold hand can seem invisible.
Mainly identified as a sculptor, Jun Kaneko also works on equally technical and innovative levels in glass, textiles, bronze, paper and canvas. This exhibition is an extensive representation of Jun's work in ceramic sculpture, drawings and paintings over the past two decades.

Currently, Jun Kaneko lives and works in a large four story warehouse converted into his studio and home in Omaha, Nebraska. His prolific roster of diverse work appears annually in numerous international solo and group exhibitions and is included in more than forty museum collections. To date he has realized over twenty five public art commissions around the world and has been honored with national, state and organization fellowships and an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art in London.

The showing here is part of a ten city national tour taking place over a two and a half year period containing approximately thirty nine ceramic artworks, paintings, and works on paper from the collection of the Kaneko Studio. The exhibition was curated by Jun Kaneko and was developed and managed by Smith Kramer Fine Art Services, an exhibition tour development company in Kansas City, Missouri.

M.C. ESCHER

M.C. ESCHER

January 20 - April 11, 2010 (Special Exhibition)

Marc Bell Presents: The Magical World of M.C. Escher

The unforgettable visual puzzles and impossible structures of the Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) have earned Escher worldwide acclaim. Printmaker, draftsman, book illustrator and muralist M.C. Escher became one of the most famous artists of the 20th century, and his graphic works are recognized worldwide. This retrospective exhibition is one of the most comprehensive and important exhibitions of Escher's work ever shown in the United States. It will present hundreds of rare original artworks - including the artist's original drawings, watercolors, prints, wood blocks, studio furniture, tool cabinet and memorabilia - from the M.C. Escher Family Collection, previously on loan to The Hague Museum.

Escher was truly an artist beyond his time. He worked with multiple realities and geometric figures that combine beauty, art, math, and the impossible to expand the very boundaries of our perception. Included will be his most famous works includingReptiles, Drawing Hands, Ringsnakes, Relativity, Puddle, Waterfall, Encounter, Hand with Reflecting Sphere, House of Stairs, Eye, and Metamorphosis.

M.C. Escher is among the most mathematical and scientific of artists. A strong emphasis will be placed on public education programs in conjunction with the exhibition, which will  include Escher in the Classroom outreach, studio and gallery workshops at K-12 and university levels to explore mathematics and art, infinity, architecture and tessellations all based on Escher's workand films including the award-winning 2007 "Achieving the Unachievable."
This exhibition has been organized by the Boca Raton Museum of Art in conjunction with Walker Fine Art/Rock J. Walker, and will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue. This exhibition is made possible through the generosity of Marc Bell.
